Semi-finals of the WESG qualifiers for the four African & Middle Eastern regions have been played, effectively deciding the two teams from each region that will go on to play in the $75,000 regional LAN finals.
After two days of regional single-elimination qualifiers, eight teams that will represent their respective regions have been found. Space Soldiers reached the finals of their region effortlessly and secured the second round of qualification with a 2-0 victory over countrymen HWA.
Azmican "asmo" Berberoglu's DarkPassage also achieved a 2-0 victory in their semi-finals over the Georgian team Millennium, securing them their first international LAN. Even though DarkPassage has a chance to make a dent there, Space Soldiers are going to be the best team at the event and clear favorites to qualify for the $1,500,000, 24-team WESG Global Grand Finals.
We will be seeing XANTARES at another LAN soon
With three spots for the main event up for grabs at the LAN qualifier in Dubai, seeing Bravado at another big international event is not an unlikely scenario. The South-African squad has recently qualified for ESWC 2016 that is going to take place in late October and have been in great form since bLacKpoisoN rejoined the team.
Bravado 2-0'd FlipSid3 Africa in semi-finals and carboN did the same to Damage Control to take the other South & East African spot in the regional finals.
In the Middle East teams Swift and Chosen5 prevailed in similarly dominant fashion, 2-0 results in the semis with their opponents Aimers Alive and KotK taking only 10 and 11 rounds respectively.
Swift is a team that includes Khalid "KarriBob" Al-Junaibi, Mohammed "k1tkat" Al-Nuaimi and Obaid "breAker" Al-Muhairi from the Risky line-up that attended IEM Taipei 2016 and PGL KeSPA Asia Minor this year. The added experience should help, but with only one map won over two events they are going to have a tough time against the better teams at the final qualifier.
North & West Africa's qualifier was the last one to end, with semi-final matches lasting long into the night. In the end, the two Algerian teams FENNEC and Viva Algeria prevailed over their Tunisian opponents DreamRAR and the Tunisian national team, providing matches that were a bit closer than the semis of the rest of the qualifier.
FENNEC scraped through their first map versus Tunisia with a close 16-14 before closing it out with a 16-9 on the second, while DreamRAR - Viva Algeria was the only three mapped semi-final affair - even though the decider map ended 16-1.

The grand final and third place decider matches of the regional qualifiers are to be played today to decide the seeds and replacement teams in case one of the qualified ones drops out. As announced, the $75,000 regional finals will be played on LAN in Dubai from the 26th to the 28th of August.
